THURSDAY. OCT. 26. 1939
TIMES. WILLAMINA. OREGON
RONDE
(By M. PETERSEN)
Mrs. Edward Riggs was taken to
the hospital seriously ill.
L. M. Petersen had to be operated
on for rupture. Mrs. Glover has a
heating stove for $5 she wants to
sell. Leonard Jefferies and wife want
_,to Salem Saturday. Harvey Lachance
went to Salem Monday to get supplies
for his meat peddling truck. J. Wil
son of Sheridan wants a house to
rent for himself, wife and four chil
dren. He works at the New Grand
Ronde mill. Six more men have been
added to the force. Mr. Pierce is still
at hospital.
More people coming f r o m the
East looking for farms. They want
cabins to live in till they find a farm
to suit. Grand Ronde has no place
for them, so they go to Hebo where
the people have sense to accommo
date them. That way we lose many
settlers. Ed Gardner of Dolph Hotel
called for dill and garlic; he also
wants cabbage for his wife to make
kraut. He is improving the hotel in
and outside to better accommodate
the traveling public. In the last 30
years we have seen many changes
from Willamina west.
Mr. Watrons of Bend is looking for
a business location on our highway
between Grand Ronde and the Bee
Ranch. He is an electric and radio
repairer. His father is a miner look
ing for minerals; he lives at the
coast.
Joe Dolp raised a ton or more of
carrots. M. Petersen expects to sell
the Melvin Wilson farm this week
consisting of 60 acres; the ^pple trees
scattered over this area are heavily
loaded with crabapples. Mr. Harding
of Tillamook is wrecking the old
Indian office; will build a house in
Tillamook.
M. Petersen has saurkraut for sale
He and Leo Norwest made a tirp to
Sheridan last week.
Howard Scheese is working at the
Blaine mill; his wife lives at Grand
Ronde; he makes weekly visits here
to supply his wife with necessities.
Harry Lachance’s wife served as
teacher at Valley Junction for a few
days while the teacher was not well.
She is now visiting her parents near
Roseburg. Plowing and seeding is in
full swing here. Fall rain has also
set in. We have not had any frost
yet.
Mrs. Petersen is still suffering with
gas on her stomach. Some days better,
some days worse. Mr. George Bahn
has rented his 76 acres.
The house of Burl Perrie celebrat
ed the homecoming of Burl inviting
their friends Petersens and Madisons.
Mrs. Perrie is a wonderful baker and
cook. The dinner served was a king’s
dinner; will long be remembered.
They have a beautiful home.
The old St. Michael church built
by Rev. Adrian Cracked will soon be
no more. A land mark gone. Too
bad! No wis the time to plant fruit
and shade trees. Call on M. Petersen,
he will and can serve you. He also
has horses, cows and pigs for sale for
his neighbors. Also a 2-ton truck for
less money.
Let us beautify our school ground
at Dist. 91 and 90 with a few shade
trees. See what our forefathers have
done in Portland; let us follow suit.
