“Peace on Earth, Good W ill to M en”
Once more the season is at hand when everyone, re
gardless of his religion, or social position, celebrates the
birth of Jesus, the Christ. To some it is a holy day, to be
celebrated with reverance and humility. To others it is
merely another holiday to be spent in worldly pleasures,
and to be commercialized in any way suggested that may
add to their worldly pleasures and treasurers.
Christmas is a time of “ Peace on Earth and'Goodwill
Toward Men.” It is a good time to forget the differences
that have arisen between friends and neighbor, and to
clear the mind of all malice, so.that next week, when we
pass another milestone on the calender of the Christian
era, we may be ready to turn the new page without hav
ing to carry over “ debits” against our happiness for the
coming year.
Let us join together in keeping the spirit of Christ
mas alive in our community, -not only on Christmas day,
but on every day of the year; let us support community
enterprises, foster a stronger community spirit, and make
our community a better place in which to live.

reduced passenger fares which became
effective on western railways on Dec. 1,
further reductions will be made by the
railways on round-trip summer excur
sion fares between points in western
territory and the Pacific coast, accord
ing to an announcement by H. W. Sid-
dall, chairman of the Western Passenger
Association.
Three classes of fares will be offered
by the western railways. First-class,
good in Pullman equipment, will aver
age slightly less than 2 cents per mile;
round-trip between Chicago and the Pa
cific Coast will be $86. The round-trip
intermediate-class fare, good in tourist
sleeping cars, will be $68.80, and for
tickets good in day coaches only, $57.35.
Corresponding reductions will be made
between St. Louis, Kansas City, Minne
apolis, Omaha and other points and the
Picifie Coast.
These reduced rate tickets will be on
sale from May 15 to October 15, with
the return limit October 31. Extensive
route privileges will be offered, enabl
