new pastor cf the M. E. church and
his wife. Talks were given by Scout*

Mr. Terry, and Guardian Mrs. Hud
dleston with response by Mrs. Tchhy.

in the M. E. church next Wednesday
night, July 19, a t 7:30 o’clock. Ice

Miss McMullen Drowned
While Bathing Near Taft
Miss Gulda McMullen, a form er
teacher in the Wilamina schools, was
drowned a t 10:30 Tuesday morning
while swimming in Siletz bay. The
coast guard crew worked for several
hours in a vain attem pt to restore res
piration.
She and a girl companion had swum
fa; out around a point, and found
themselves in the breakers. The com
panion managed to swim through, but
Miss McMullen was apparently eaught
in the undertow and sank.
Miss McMullen’s mother witnessed
the tragedy.
