BUSY LABOR DAY WEEKEND SHOWN IN PICTURES
It was an active Labor Day weekend, both in and around t h i s
area, and at the State Fair in Salem, as these pictures show.
At left is a couple of the men, trying to ride some of the w ild
critters at the Brookings Rodeo held Sunday. The second pic
ture shows Fred Biunt, himself, about to bite the dust. Below
is shown a local boy, calmly perched on a calf. It looks e a s y
but most of the youngsters—or adults didn’t stay on long. Fred
Blunt and Warren McNeely, co-sponsors of the show are shown
helping one lad on one of the fighting animals. Below that are
scenes from the state fair.
The first state fair photo, taken by a Pilot staff photographer,
shows C.H. Brooks of Langlois, who installed the Curry Coun
ty booth at the fair, handing out smoked salmon, courtesy of the
Cedar Lane Cannery in Harbor. The salmon was the big draw
of the booth, and hundreds of people came over to sample th e
goods. Other pictures across the bottom of the page show peo
ple watching the Curry booth. Brooks said that he passed out
several hundred Brookings brochures, recently printed by the
Pilot, and many, many people expressed interest in the comm
unity. Several general scenes of the fair are shown, with th e
judging of the cattle, by 4-H youngsters. At upper right of the
picture pa;e is shown a local gal, just about ready to head into
the turf. She was the only girl riding the calves, and received
a big hand from the crowd.
