VERNON HANSC AM'S GIVEN

HOUSEWARMING
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hanscam
and family were completely s u r
prised Thursday evening when
about thirty m embers of the E ast
ern Stars gave them a house
warming party at their new home
above Harbor.
Gifts for their home of an up
holstered occasional chair and
floor lamp were presented them
by the group, who after an evening
of visiting served delicious re
freshm ents.
This is the second housewarm
ing the Hanscam's have had, the
first one being given by the em
ployees of Hanscams Center, and
at which time they were presented
a large m irro r for over, their
fireplace.

MASONIt WORK
PROGRESSES
Before Saturday's rain started
nuch of the new Masonic Build
ing was roofed. More than a do;
en members , thanks to the help
of Blaine Gribble and his boys
got the main hall and the kitchen
"hot-mopped" on three layers of
tarpaper and had just begun on th«
front portion when rains stopped
all work.
During the week, work was s ta rt
ed on the seating platforms in the
main room and Charlie Bickner
came up with a unique design for
some. While awaiting electrical
and plumbing work necessary be
fore much more can be done in
side, the outer walls could be
weatherproofed. There is an u r
gent need of matt*rials.
As the work progresses much
more enthusiasm on the part of
the membership both men and wo
men has been noted and it appears
the building might be ready for
use this fall if interest increases.
One exception to the general
trend of the m arket is Western
Red Cedar which appear- to be
holding its own, and the Cedar
siding market is considered re a
sonably strong.
Plywood prices dropped to a
new $68 base for quarter-inchAD
stock last week.
Demand for sanded stock has
shown no improvement, and she
athing prices have taken anothei
drop.
