At lease the directors would like to tak e the w riter by the hand and show him the city of Brookings. The reason for the ire (m ostly kidding) is a four column story (w ith pictures) of the Oregon Coast, which appeared in the tr a vel section of the Berkley Daily G azette last Thursday. The story was a w onderful one, with the banner headline “Oregon Coast Abounds w ith Colorful scenery and fine recreation spots”. For two full galleys of type, which started off "O regon’s breezy coast from the Chetco River and the colorful Azaleas in th e south to G earh art and the A stor Column in the n o rth ” the story told of the m any beauties of the coast. But lo— every city, village, and ham let was m en tioned except Brookings and H ar bor. Not a line, not a word. And there, oh dastard ly deed, two pictures illu stratin g the beau tiful “coast” showed T im berline Lodge and M ultnom ah Falls, neith er of which are m entioned in the the story. The story is an iteresting one w hich goes on to tell the follow ing inform ation: “The w hole fam ily will find pleasure here, for most of the coastline is decked i w ith clean sand, and all but a few iles of the beach are state-owned and open to th e public. ‘Vistas overlooked by h i g h I cliffs, rugged prom ontories and surf-w ashed rock form ations com bine to provide the costal scenery, to all of w hich a m odern highway leads. ‘The Chetco River in the south is one of O regon's p rettiest fish ing stream s, and is a favorite for trout and salmon. Azaleas in Azalea S tate P ark bloom brightly in spring. •Azalea P ark is the first of a succession of state parks and way- sides ideally situated along the Oregon Coast. Cam ping and tra il er sitese, picnic tables and view points are offered in park s such as H arris Beach, etc." The article tells all about Wed- Brookings, Oregon d erburn, Gold Beach and Agness, Bandon, Coos Bay, and every city to the north. But no Brookings. A copy of this story, and the article, plus a plea for reco .n itio n by the w riters of the state high way inform ation service \ ill be forw arded to Salem GIRL S C O IT MELTING A very im p o rtan t m eeting of the Neighborhood Girl scout lead ers will be held Monday A pril 1st at th e F ire House.
