On Russia Trip
Roy J. Hansen. m anager, E u­
reka T ravel Agency, and a recent
visitor to th e Soviet Union was
guest speaker T uesday at the reg­
ular noon m eeting of the Brooking
Rotary Club at the Cliff House.
H ansen told the group candidly
th at th e people in the Soviet
Union “never had it so good’’,
b u t em phasized the fact th a t they
never had anything to begin with,
so th a t it seems good to them,
alhough they are a long way be­
hind the U. S. in alm ost every
respect.
He reported a lack of “ freedom
of m ovem ent”, and of “ freedom
of speech”, but said that TV sets
were fairly common, in Moscow
at least and other living standards
w ere low com pared to us, but they
w ere m aking progress.
H ansen m ade a m onths trip
through Russia alone, telling the
group th a t the average Russian
w orker receives only one forth
the U. S. pay. and finds prices
six tim es as high, and the quality
! lower.

Laura Vincent
Passes Away
L aura Vincent, passed aw ay in
Salem, Oregon M arch 11, 1957,
after a lengthy illness. She had
resided in the H arbor and Sm ith
River area all her life and w as 87
years old at the tim e of h er pass­
ing. L aura V incent w as a m em ber
of the E astern S ta r lodge of C res­
cent City, California.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs.
Minnie Thompson, H arb o r and a
nephew , A rchie McVay of H arbor.
