Eagle Point Whips Brookings Twice
Marv Bullock Breaks Collarbone
Bad luck, which has dodged the
Brookings Bruins all season came
in bunches S aturday night, as the
Bruins lost a pair of Rogue River
league outing to a highly ranked
Eagle Point quad.
They lost the first gam e by only
four points, 50-46, but the second
game S aturday was the heart-
breaker, as they lost 45 41 after
leading alm ost all the way.
The Brooks pulled aw ay to an
almost unbelievable 12 point lead
in the first quarter but then ace
center Marv Bullock, who ha
been one of the leading scorers
broke his collarbone, and w as
taken out of the game.
D ishearted by this tu rn o f
events the Brooks saw their ad
vantage disappear until one se
cond before half tim e Jack G reb
missed a free toss, and W ayne
C C hristian tipped in to to t i e the
score at 22 all.
With Bill W orkinger flipping in
th ree field goals the B r o o k s
moved out in front again 40 39
w ith four m inutes to go. Eagle
Point began fouling in an effort
to get the ball, but Brookings
could only m ake one out of five
free throw s, and they saw their
lead over the strong Eagles go
down the drain.
Je rry A nderson pum ped in four
field goals in the first q u a rte r to
help the Brooks pull aw ay early,
h e ended w ith 14 points for the
evening. Stan G ribble had nine
points, Hon Bullock eight, and
W orkinger six.
On Friday night, in the game
th at counted, it was a rough se
cond q u arter that threw t h e
Brooks off. They hung w ith the
Eagles througout the first period,
each hitting 13 points, but the
Bruins could only add four points
in the second q u arter, w hile the
Eagles hit for 16 to carry an im
possible 13 jxnnt advantage.
However, some potent field
goal work by W orkinger w ith four
goals brought the Bruins to a 34
40 disadvantage going into the
final period. At th< games end,
w ith Je rry Anderson hitting well
the Bruins only trailed by four
points.
W orkinger led the scoring with
16 points, while Anderson had 12,
and Stan G ribble eight, Marv
Bullock six, and Ron Bullock
four.
C urrently the Brooks hold a
three way tie for second place,
w ith Illinois Valley and Phoenix.
