NOWHERE A FINER CLIMATE. . . .
Why Be In Doubt About the
Title to Your Real Estate Being Clear of Defect
Tuesday morning little white pellets commonly known
as hail came flying down from the heavens. On Monday
several people reported to this office as a news item that
they had seen snow. And perhaps on Friday we may get <
a little rain in Brookings—an inch or so.

1 lowever, I haven’t heard a single complaint. Every
body is quite pleased with the wonderful fall and the
winter thus far. More than two of what would he nor
mally our worst months have passed—November and
December, and still the sun comes out and makes an
honest newspaper of us.
If you will note—on our masthead—it says right there
for all to see, “Nowhere a finer Climate—Nowhere a
finer Community«’’ We think that we re telling the truth
on both scores. Last year at times we will grant that we
had an occasional doubt flicker across our mind when
it rained incessantly for weeks on end. But we are now
convinced that was the exception rather than the rule.
Once we have examined the Title to you?

We had a marvelous summer, without a drop of rain
for months and months. We had a glorious fall, with
just enough rain to keep the dust down and now our
winter thus far has been excellent, except for a few days.
We can easily see by looking at the weather reports
that Bn Hikings is the warmest spot during the winter of
any place in the entire Pacific Northwest and it is one
of the coolest spots during the summer. We can’t ask
anything more out of weather than that.

the Y uletide holidays give me my
best opportunity to put into p rac
tice my own philosophy as to
w hat should constitute a vacation.
R ather than offering m yself up as
a potential statistic for holiday
traffic fatalities, I concentrate all
of my efforts into th e enjoyable
task of loafing—at home.
At first it was a little difficult
to break aw ay from routine. My
n atu ra l inclination each m orning
w as to dress in an app ro p riate
m anner to m eet my classes at
college; but before two days had
passed. I found th at I could clothe
myself sloppily, even foregoing a
necktie, w ithout feeling too u n
com fortable.
Mv next step in em ancipation
was to do exactly w hat I felt like
doing exactly w hen I felt like do
ing it. If I had the urge to read. I
took a book from th e shelf, en
sconced m yself in an easy chair,
and w ithin a few m inutes was out
of this world. If I felt like eating.
I raided the refrig erato r; and best
of all, if I felt like doing aboslute-
ly nothing, I proceeded to do ju st
that.
P erh ap s for the first tim e in my
life I realized the cruelty of a
schedule as a taskm aster. My
greatest satisfaction cam e from
the realization that I could throw-
off the shackles of rigid procedure
w ithout feeding ill at ease in th e
process. I am convinced that th e
inability to relax com fortably is
the curse of*the m odern world.
Now th at I am retu rn ed to my
daily chores, I find m yself re
freshed and at the sam e tim e a
trifle conceited over having at
last discovered th e tru e m eaning
of the m uch abused w ord—v aca
