Fam ily Car in Plonge from Bridge
A car hurtling through the air
ended the C hristm as season for

landing 50 feet below on the
bank.
The children craw led from the
car and w ent to the O ldenberg
residence nearby, aw aking Mr.
Oldenberg, who called State Pa
trolm an Dave M acDonald. Mac
Donald, w ith the assistance of
some passing loggers, managed to
get Mrs. S tutuesm an and her hus
band out of the wreck. She was
pinned in by the car, and the
children thought she was dead.
Injured was Jo h n Stutuesm an,
Jr. 33, his wife, Vivian Mae, 33,
William 13, Connie 9. Robert, 7,
and Jan ice 6.
They w ere on their way south
to ’ayw ard. California for the
holidays. They w ere south bound,
when Mrs. S tutuesm an hit the
frosty bridge, w here she skidded
and lost control of the car. The

went through the railing at a spot
. here it had already been broken.
The car lit on the bank 50 feet
below, com pletely upside down.
MacDonald took th ree of the
stand-up patients to the Crescent
City Seaside hospital, and Dr.
David Brown drove the other
three stretch er cases in his sta
tion wagon. The accident happen
ed at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
