A “THANK YOU” IS IN ORDER
Good news came by wire Friday morning. Sen.
Wayne Morse announced that the $225,< xjo for the
Chetco River Mouth, requested by him, Sen. Neulx?r-
ger and Rep. Edith (ireen had appeared on the Senate
appropriations committee bill. It was added to the bill
by their request.
First, as important as the news is to this com
munity, we don’t like to get all steamed up until the
actual passage of the measure, 'Flic senate has to pass
on it, and action is expected this week. 1 hen it must
lx? re-passed by the I louse.
However, it does look good. It is the first step,
and the most important step yet taken.
We could easily elaborate on what the Chetco
River Mouth Improvement could do for this commun
ity, and for all of Southwestern Oregon. But let us
bold 1 jack on that until the measure is safely through.
But we would like to explain just who made this
important initial step possible. First, we think the
community owes i f tremendous debt of gratitude to
Wilson Freeman, and the Chetco River Harbor Com-
piittee. Freeman has devoted a great deal of money,
and many long years of work in behalf of the project.
Other committee members too, Ed Ackley,
Clive Manley, John Hewitt, Dr. Roy White, Ilans
Nelson and Murry Palmer all have contributed time
and money in supporting this development. Their
campaign was a well thought out one, as evidenced
by their success.
Hiirdly, the man on the street probably will
attribute the effort that the Oregon Democrats {mt in
on this project to election year politics. However, the
Republicans are also running this year, and they failed
fo accomplish anything in our behalf. Rep. I larris Ells
worth failed to get the appropriation on the 1 louse bill.
Looking at it in the most unbiased way possible,
it is very evident that whatever the reason, the fact re
mains that Sen. Morse, and Sen. Neuberger have ac
complished a great deal for the Brookings 1 larbor area
Our personal appreciation goes out to both men, and
we think that a most heartfelt “Thank You For A Job
Well Done’ from the entire community would I k in
order.

A FINE FESTIVAL. INDEED
lo us, the 195b Azalea Festival was a big sue
cess. It bad everything, and everything went off just
fine. It hail beautiful weather, a beautiful Queen and
a wonderful Court. It had a fine parade, superb
Flower, Art and Rock Shows.
I he coronation and religious ceremonies were
excellent. I he Bar B Que came oil very well, anil all
of the other events were superlative.
lb azaleas never looked Ixtter, despite the
lateness of the Festival this year. That fact, coupled
with the warm sun on Sunday made it a day to re
member.
We would like to extend our appreciation to
the many, many people that helped make this Festival
a success No celebration can succeed as this one did,
without everybody working together as a community.
Our special thanks go to the Brookings Harbor
( hamber of Commerce for undertaking the Festival
this year. Without that organi/aton there would have
been no Festival.
And finallv, we just can’t emphasize enough the
terrific job that general chairman \ ngil Clark did,
in making this event the success that it was ('lark did
such a fine job, in co ordinating, and cracking the whip
we would like to lx* the fust to nominate him to serve
