Bertha Estelle Lamberson and
Charles Crosby were married
just fifty years ago, at Westfall,
Malheur County, by Johnnie
Howard, Justice of Peace, there
being no clergyman within nnles
and miles.
Just because of this event, all
as a surprise to the former bride
and groom, they were invited to
a potluck dinner, at the 1.0 O.F.
Hall, last Sunday. Some thirty
or forty of their old time neigh
bors and friends dropped in and
it was quite a surprise to Charlie
and Bertha, when everyone well
fed. the climax came when they
were presented with one of the
best TV sets money could buy. It
was purchased through a sub
scription list passed around a-
mong the neighbors, and that
evening, was installed in their
home.
During the balance of the af
ternoon over 100 friends dropped
in to an open house, congratul
ation party where they were be-
jpg served cake and coffee, thq
‘bride and groom' doing the hod
's!*» at the serving table.
Mr. anti Mrs. Crosby lived
here, many, many years» ago, and
returned during war timd, again
making themselves among the
very best of neighbors.
If they weren’t they wouldn’t
have been so handsomely remem-
bened.

HIGHWAY SIGNS —
Some 2,000 warnings have al
ready been issued for violation
of the new highway sign law, ac
cording to a Salem release. This
new law makes liable for pros
ecution all unlicensed signs ex
cept those within 300 feet of the
business advertised, unless a per
mit has been obtained.
3,150 permits have been issued
for signs owned by sign compan-
ies and only 1.060 for those own
ed by individuals. Permit fees
range from 50 cents to $3.00,
based upon the size of the signs.
The release states that there
is now* no excuse for those re
sponsible not having obtained
their permits or removed offend
ing signs.

Minnie King was in the ortioe
Tuesday. She seems like a nice
sincere woman, and was very
confident that she would carry
Coos county and win going away.
Of course, most of those politic*-
inns expect to win otherwise
they wouldn’t be spending their
hard-earned money. Personally,
I’m putting my bets on Sam
Hall. Just pretend bets, though.
