for their help in the removal of
trash and log jams in the smaller
streams. This work has added
several hundreds of miles of good

barrier which blocks the up

JAP BOTTLES —
Beachcombers who may find
bottles containing cards from
Japan are asked to turn them in
to the State Fish Commission re
search laboratory at 20 S. W.
Bay Blvd., Newport, or to the
Fish Commission Office, 307
State, Street, Portland.
Three bottles were recently-
found on the beach, at Netarts,
with cards enclosed asking that
the cards be returned to Japan,
with certain data. The fish com
mission has already written to
Japan making inquiries regard
ing the bottles.
Letter to the Editor
Your article in the May 3rd
issue under the caption “Bugs
Eating” was most interesting,
and helpful as this bug Is a con
stant source of worry to the
farmers. Especially the method
of eradication leaves one deeply
appreciative of what science can
do. Of course, we realize what a
tremendous amount of time and
labor it took to arrive at this sol
ution. It calls to mind the story
of the peddler of insect powder
who, when asked how to use his
product replied, "Take a firm
grip on the neck of the beast and
squeeze it. When it opens its
mouth, fill it w-ith powder. It
dies ¡mediately.’»
