Formed, Officers Elected GROUP MEETS

finaliat for the 1956 Dream Girl
of Pi Kappa Alpha contest at the
University of Oregon.

accorded many campus honors
and may take part in the Nation­
al finals which may bring her
additional award*. The contest

The Winchuck Extension Club
was formed at the meeting held
at the home of Mrs. Thelma Pet-
tegrew last Thursday afternoon,
with Mrs. Sylvia Lee, County
Extension Agent presiding. Mrs.
Lee gave a talk on the different
phases of the Extension Club
work ,and the projects accomp­
lished over the years. She also
instructed the group on the prop­
er use of the sewing machine.
The following officers were
elected to head the new unit:
Chairman, Thelma Pettegrew;
Vice-chairman, Kay Johnson;
Secretary-Treasurer, Kay Bowlin
and Reporter, Clara Bowlin.

The Curry County Soil Con­
servation District met for the
regular monthly meeting Wed­
nesday, April 18th at 11 a.m. in
the County Extension office.
Present were Cecil Watt, chair­
man, Brookings; Charles W.
Brooks, Secretary, Sixes; A. G.
Walker, Pistol River; Charles
Knox, Wedderburn, i newly el­
ected supervisor); Otis Bowman,
Kenneth Priest and Ross Brown,
all of Gold Beach.
Charles Brooks gave a sum­
mary report of the annual SCD
meeting held at Sixes, March 14.
Conservation problems in Curry
County and proposed action on
them was discussed. Considerable
time was spent on the develop­
ment of a District Plan of Op­
erations for the balance of 1956
with the setting of some goals of
accomplishment. Special attent­
ion will be given to range water
development drainage; stream
bank erosion control; pasture
and timber management.
A field tour of the district is
planned for Wednesday, May 9.
This, will be part of the SCD
observation of National Conser­
vation Week.

LIFE OF ST. PAUL —
A feature length showing of a
film about the life of St. Paul,
“Ttv» Magnifent Adventure” will
be shown, next Sunday, at St.
Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
The showing will begin at 7 :30
p.m. The reels are produced by
Cathedral Films, under the dir­
ection of Rev. James Friedrichs,
of the Episcopal Faith. All are
invited to attend.

Blagdon, w ith his wife, lived up
the Chetco and being an excell­
ent woodsman, his services w ere
much in dem and on th e stream
valleys of th e area. D uring his
la te r years he spent m uch tim e
in boat building and wimx I w o rk ­
ing, which he g reatly enjoyed,
and in which he w as a handy
craftsm an.
