At a recent m eeting in Lang
lois the people learned th a t they,
too, are faced w ith w a te r prob
lems. Last Tuesday evening
sons? 400 residents met w ith Sid
Laswell, from a Corvallis engin
eering firm , and w ere told their
lim it of bonding w as about
$30,000 but th a t some $9.000
m ore would be required and th a t
the chances were they would
has.? to incorporate before they
could even raise th at. To offset
the $9.000 difference it was
brought out there would h a \e
to be a connection charge of
$130 plus $5.00 p er m onth to the
uom estic user.
On th e basis of the ¡»resent
valuation, they w ere told, a 10
mill levy, plus th e income from
connection and service, would
am ortize the indebtedness in 25
years and also tak e care of any
foreseeable expansion.
Mr. Laswell then explained to
the Langlois people how they
may go about solving th e ir prob
lem. legally.

A REASON FOR CHRISTMAS . . .
We want to start off by wishing everyone a
Merry Christinas. Without a doubt this time of year
is, indeed, a merry one. Everyone begins to get the
feel of the season from jolly old Santa Claus, right
dow n to the two-year old child.
I lours are spent cheerfully in decorating homes,
lawns and rooms. People spend money happily, buying
gifts for others. We must remember too, the real reason
for Christmas, and the real reason for “Joy On Earth
-Good Will to Men.’’
At this season we honor a child’s birth, Jesus,
anti rightly enough the Christmas time spirit is best
demonstrated by making the children of the home
happy. Christmas is a time for children’s laughter.
Our fondest desire is that the phrase “Christmas
spirit,” begins to be more and more accepted through
out the entire year.

A MEETING OF IMPORTANCE
Friday night the Curry County court, Judge
(iuy Forsyth, and commissioners Tex Breedlove and
lx»b Ismcrt were in Brookings. We believe it was
Forsyth’s and Breedlove’s first public appearance in
Brtxikii lgs since the election.
W ere for meetings of this type. I he Chamber
<jf Commerce and Sam I fall arc to be congratulated
in arranging the meeting. It was a good one.
It is our impression that if meetings such as this,
with the court sitting down with a group of business
and professional men, and discussing current prob
lems and plans, there would be much less mis-under-
standing.
.. .
,
„
I here were some very important problems
discussed at the meeting, such as county school aid.
from O & C tynber funds; road repair; and timber
tc appraisal. V e would like to go into them more fully
at a later date. The important thing now, is that these
meetings are essential jK-riodically, to enable a de
mocracy to function properly.
I he people elect county officials, and the
people should have the right to he heard.

NOTICE
The S. A. Agnew timber interests in Curry County have been
subjected to a series of trespasses, some of which appear to
have been deliberate. An honest check of property lines would
have eliminated this problem. The purchase of logs from a tres
pass area subjects the buyer to paying twice for the same logs.
These practices will not be tolerated. S. A. Agnew will
use every remedy available, both civil and criminal, to
stop this practice.
Brookings Plywood Corporation has been appointed by S. A.
Agnew to safe-guard and patrol his Curry County properties and
to assist in any necessary prosecutions.
