A new m ix tu re of sa lt and clay
is being tried in the City of G rass
Valley, California, according to
rep o rts in th a t tow n’s "T H E UN­
ION ." as a su b stitu te for black
top. The Leslie S alt Company is
furnishing free salt and th e m ix­
tu re is being applied to th e N ev­
ada City airp o rt strip as well as
some of th e local streets. The
story goes on to say th a t, if suc­
cessful, it will probably be used
on o th e r thorough fares.
A 50-year old dam on ti e north
fork of th e Coquille River has
been blasted out by th e Moone
Mill and L um ber Company, of
Bandon, under th e direction of the
S ta te Fish Commission. This al-
lows m igatory tro u t and salmon
to go into tire u pper reaches of
the stream for spawning.
