Meeting for the first tim e in 37
years, John Lemanski, of Naples
Calif, dropped in, w ith his wift
on M. S Brainard Mrs. Lemanski
accompanied her husband. Lem-
anski and B rainard served at the
sam e Naval Air Station, lie Tudy,
France, during World W ar I
continuing on to retire in 1946, as
a commander, afte r 41 years of
service He is at present employed
at the Douglas A ircraft plant, at
San Diego. They were making
leisurely vacation trip and are
thinking seriously of getting out
of Southern California. John is an
ardent fisherman of a fast fading
type, preferring a well wormed
hook, his old pipe, and a sunny
spot to stretch out in.

. . . . LIBRARY
were sincerely appreciated, and
th a t they are now owners of
stock in a fine new 'city service.
It costs nothing to borrow from
the present stock of over 2,OCX)
books, with a few exceptions.
There is a Library Association
whose members help guide the
affairs of the organization. The
fee is $2.50 a year as a member,
w ith the privilege of a vote at
meetings held the fourth Monday
night at the Library building.
Members of the Board are Mrs
1 E rm a Rice president; Mrs. May
I Simpson, vice-president;
Mrs.
I M yrtle Schaal, secretary; Mrs.
Lulu Goldizen, treasu rer; Mrs.
Sylvia Knox, trustee, Jack Carson,
tru stee; Max Brainard, trustee;
Jess Judkins, trustee; and ex-
officio member, Librarian Gladys
Brainard.
’ Many things are yet needed to
com plete a smooth running unit.
F o u r more lighting fixtures, read
ers chairs, a small desk for the
office, a magazine case and sub-
s<riptions,
two
w aste-baskets,
bamboo gutters and down-spouts
installed, painting on the exterior
to preserve work already done, a
book cart, small sink, m ixer fauc
et, small electric w ater heater,
Clipboards, book shelves in the
juvenile departm ent, fill m aterial
and gravel for drive and sidewalks
Max Brainard has ’spearheaded’
the construction and put in un
counted hours of labor on the
building. The steady faithfulness
of he and his wife through the
tim es when the vision of a library-
building dimmed, kept the books
circulating, and the goal before
the public.
The library is located across
from the Christian Science church
at the turn of the street past the
Catholic church.
Residents are proud of the build
ing which is valued at $16,000
together with the three lots.
The books are worth another
$4.000 at least.
"Open” hours will be released
as stxm as the final plumbing con
nections are made. Those who
have not inspected this fine public
facility are urged to do so and
avail themselves of the pleasure
this new library can be to all liv
ing in the community.
