W hy should a new spaper alone out of all b u si nesses in a com m u n ity stick th e ir neck out on co n tro v e rsial issues of th e day, and in c u r the w ra th of th e c itiz e n ry ? W hy should a n ew sp ap er jeopardize it’s business by ta k in g a stand, o r a side? M any reasons a re advanced for doing ju s t th a t. We feel th at one of the m ain reasons for having a co m m u n ity new s p a p e r is above and b e y o rd th e m é re p rin tin g of local news, and ad v e rtisin g m essages. W e feel th a t an ed ito rial encourages people to th in k for th em selv es and not ju s t to digest m a te ria l and accept it as fact. An e d ito rial sets p eople to th in k in g if it is rig h t o r w rong, if they ag re e o r disagree.
