Lily Parade Enchants Big
Crowd With Lovely Floats
B rookings, H arb o r, an d five or
six thousand visito rs w atched
S un d ay aftern o o n as th e Lily
C apitol of th e w orld unveiled nts
eig h th an n u al Lily Blossom p a r ­
ade.
T hey saw 22 floats and th ree
bands p arad e for an h o u r down
C hetco avenue, betw een sto re
fro n ts covered w ith lilies and
o th e r flow ers in honor of th e oc­
casion.
W e a th e r w hich had caused one
th e postjHHiement it w as a high-
o p erated grudgingly. T he skies
w ere overcast but dry for the
event .
T h e p arad e was not q u ite as
larg e as last y ear's, and th e crowd
w as also sm aller. But considering
th e postponcm em nt, it was a high­
ly sa tisfa c to ry tu rn o u t lor the
Lily city 's big day.

One w as th e S w eep stak es w in­
ner, the e n try of the B rookings
Bible C hurch. It w as a larg e open
Bible on a field of flow ers, and
th e re w as a cross, ra d ia tin g rays
of light on th e front. It played
m usic in keeping w ith th e them e
as it trav eled down the A venue.
A close second w as th e float of
th e A zalea G arden Club, it was
th re e fairy rings, all of lilies in
which fairies gam boled, w hile a

I lowed by th e "clean-up” squad,

uels and Bud M cCourt.
T he S cotia band, resplendent in
m aroon and brow n uniform s led
th e flo ats into C hetco Avenue.
T he band, sponsored by the P acif­
ic Lum ber’ C om pany of S cotia,
is one of N o rth e rn C alifo rn ia's
o u tsta n d in g m usical organizations.
T he A m erican Legion float a t ­
tra c te d a tte n tio n It was an A m er­
ican flag eom[M)sed of re 1 and
blue pain ted lilies in addition to
n a tu ra l ones.
