of th e association held on S a tu r ­
day. the 12th, a co m m ittee w as
appointed w ith Mrs. Ed D etlefsen,
as ch airm an , to a rra n g e for a
sh o rt p ro g ram which will be held
a f te r th e luncheon. P rovision is
being m ade for tim e in w hich old
friends can m eet and renew’ a c ­
q u ain tan ces. T his an n u al event
is th e high light of th e y e a r’s
w ork of th e association and is
often atten d e d by m any out ot
s ta te people.
At th e business held S atu rd ay ,

m itte e w as given, in p re p a ra tio n
for th e election of .o fficers w hich
will ta k e place a t th e annual pic­

Make Canoe Trip

C lub E x p lo rer P ost 32, com pleted
th e ir canoe trip of 76 m iles down
th e U m pqua river. The w’a te r in
th e riv e r w as low’ this year, so
th e re w ere m ore th rills and spills
as th ey tried to n av ig ate narrow-
places betw een ju ttin g rocks.
About 40 boys m ade th e trip in
fo u r canoes, but tw o of th e canoes
w ere dam aged so badly th e boys
had to finish th e trip by tru c k
D ick and B ria n ’s canoe m ade it
all th e way, a lth o th ey dam aged
12 ribs of th e canoe, and w ere
sw am ped th re e tim es. G ettin g
th e canoe to shore and collecting
paddles an d boys a f te r a sw am p­
ing m ishap took considerable do­
ing, according to th e boys.
T hey saw’ a g re a t deal of scen­
ery and found sev eral eagles nests
on top of sn ags along one p art of
th e riv er T hey pitched cam p each
night, so m etim es in poison oak,
and cooked m eals from dehy­
d ra te d food. They had a lot of
fun and a g reat exp erience but
w e re g lad to a rriv e hom e last
S a tu rd a y .
