The Brookings Beavers will in ­
augurate the 1954 Southern O re­
gon league baseball season here
Sunday afternoon when they meet
the G rants Pass Cavemen in a
double header startin g at one o’­
clock on the new diamond near
the Plywood plant.
The Brookings club will not be
at full stren g th for the first two
week-ends. Tony Troncale, pitch­
er from Pepperdine College in
Los Angeles, is expected to be
on hand for the series at Coquille
on Ju n e 5th and 6th, Bob Selsor,
bard hitting infielder with the
Beavers last year, w rites that he
expects to be back by June 20th
Selsor is currently hitting 378 to
lead the Iz>ng Beach City Col­
lege team which lx>asts 34 wins
and only 4 losses.
Bob Astin and Jim B arrett are
expected to handle the pitching
chores in the two Sunday games.
The sta rtin g line-up will probably
see Ixm Reynoldson on 1st, Cliff |
Girod on 2nd, Boyd W esteren at
shortstop and Bud Lowe on 3td
with Lee Goodin, Ken K im ura
and Bill McLean manning the
outfield. McLean played for the
Beavers during the 1950 and ’51
seasons and Sunday will m ark
his first appearance before Brook­
ings fans since Bill completed his
tw o-year arm y hitch. Lloyd Rus­
sell will do the catching.

likely to see action.

games, winning from Crescent
City M erchants by a 7 to 2 score.

an invalid, who does all of his a rt
work from his bed. These and

play Saturday and Sunday in the
Brookings High School.
