tim e th at th e re tu rn s to the drive w ere su b sta n tia l, and th a t the
people of this com m unity have given su b sta n tia l aid ,0 th e fight
ag ain st polio.
T h e re ’s only one sm all disap p o in tm en t th a t we have in the
con ducting of such cam paigns. It seem s ,0 us th a t when a local
o rg an izatio n u n d e rta k e s an ac tiv ity such as th e M arch of Dim es,
th e re is a tendency am ong o th e r g ro u p s ,0 stan d hack and say,
"w ell, t h a t ’s th e ir baby. Le, them c a rry th e b all.”
W e’d like to see, at tim es such as this, a fu ll-h ea rted coopera
tion betw een all th e o rg an izatio n s of this area. T hink how m uch
w e could do, here, for such drives, if th e leaders of the o th e r
groups around tow n would go to the sponsoring organization,
c o n g ra tu la te them on th e job th e y 're doing, and o ffer th e re
so u rces of th e ir own group to help.
If th e o rg an izatio n s of th is city p re sen ted a united front at
such tim es, th e re isn’t a problem ex istin g we couldn’t lick in
o u r own w eight class W hat a place to live we could m ake this.

the rack, and se ttle down to a little serious co n cen tratio n . W hen
you go, th rough, you slid , Ije m agazine hack in the rack, shoved
th e cheek down u n d er Bob P h illip s’ saucer, and casually stro lled
ou t, stopping for a couple of m in u tes to listen to C had cussing
th a t b lan k ety -b lan k fountain, and w ondering why he ever m oved
in to th e re s ta u ra n t gam e.
It isn’t like th a t now. T hese new curved co u n ters m ak e it
p ra c tic a lly im possible ,0 shove th e cheek over to Boh, w ho’s s it
tin g around th e curve. C had’s out in hack, and you ca n ’t h e a r
him cussing because <a) th ere isn’t any fountain, and <b) th e
w a itre sses are being too vocal about th e cash reg ister, w hich has
ta k e n the place of th e fountain as th e most talk ed -ab o u t thing
in the join,.
But C had's still there, and th e com pany and the coffee are
still good . . and t h a t ’s the m ost im fxnSan, p a r,.
