The forest land classificatio n
co m m ittee is com posed of one
ow n er of grazing land rep resen ted
by R. M. Knox, W ed d erb u rn ; one
o w n er of tim b erlan d re p resen ted
by N ick M arsh, P ort O rford, and
one m em b er at larg e rep resen te d
by S ta n ley Colegrove, Brookings.
T he S ta te B oard of F o re s try
has ap pointed H om er Lyon s ta te
fo rester, and th e S ta te A grcul-
tu ra l E x p erim en t S ta tio n has a p ­
pointed J C. Moore ex tension con­
serv atio n specialist, to m ake up
th e re m a in d er of th is co m m ittee
of five. K. W. P riest, extension
agent, will serve as se c re ta ry to
th e com m ittee.
T he duties of this forest land
classificatio n co m m ittee a re to in ­
v estig a te and stu d y all forest land
w ith in th e county and d e te rm in e
w hich of th e land is su itab le p ri­
m a rily for the production of tim ­
ber; th a t land which is su ita b le
p rim a rily for jo in t use of tim b e r
and g razin g and w hich is su itab le
p rim arily for grazin g o r o th e r a g ­
ric u ltu ra l use. Upon th e basis of
th e in v estigation and d e te rm in a ­
tion ol th e classification c o m m it­
tee all forest land w ithin th e
co u n ty will be classified as e ith e r
C lass I o r T im ber class; C lass 2
o r tim b e r and grazin g class, anti
C lass 3, o r a g ric u ltu ra l class,
w hich is all forest land p rim a rily
su itab le for g razing o r o th e r a g ri­
c u ltu ra l use.
