BRUINS OPEN HOME SEASON HERE SATURDAY NIGHT AGAINST ILLINOIS VALLEY The B rookings B ruins open th e b ask e tb a ll season th is week, as th ey step into class z\ com peti tion. T he B ruins play a home and hom e series w ith Illinois \ alley, jo u rneying th e re F riday a r d opening in th e High School Gym here S a tu rd a y night. T he JV gam e s ta r ts a t 7, and the v a rs ity at 8. And th at ju st about ends the C lass A schedule. F o r B rookings, lro m th e re on in th e y ’re up against C lass B schools, because th e Class A d o n ’t w ant a n y th in g to do w ith us. Not u n til the dis tric t to u rn am en t will the B ruins get a Chance to m eet th e ir class A neighbors. Illinois Valley is a p re tty hefty class A school w ith consistently good team s, and they should be p re tty rough on the boys. Com ing up this y e a r he has a p re tty rugged looking squad, built aro u n d his all d istrict tw ins from last year, Ray and Ron W esteren. The one big item t h a t ’s keeping A rt aw ake these n ig h ts is his sh o rtag e of m anpow er. Already hit by th e loss of Lloyd Russel, w ho’s out w ith a broken foot, the B ruins a re short in num bers. As Art says, th e y ’ll do well until they run out of m en. . . and he's not saying w hat happens a fte r th a t. The B ruins ¡day again Tuesday , w hen they invade C rescent City in th e first of a four-gam e series. Also opening th e season is the JV team , un d er Coach ClilT Girod, of W illam ette, and m aking his bow here this year. ClilT isn ’t as convincing a crie r as A rt, but h e’s had less experience.
