Cooperation Builds a Home For Scouts
T h e S co u ts of this area. Boy and G irl and Cub. m ay. at last,
be on th e w ay to acquiring th e building th a t they have so badly
needed.
And we think th a t the m en who are stru g g lin g to get the
b u ilding erected have hit ujxin the best possible w ay of a c q u ir
ing those m a te ria ls w hich they cannot afford.
In th is lum bering area, i t ’s often cu sto m ary to go to th e
n e a re st saw m ill and ask him for lum ber for w o rth y p rojects,
such as th ese
But lu m b er is expensive, and so are th e raw’
m a te ria ls from which it is m ade. 'Io ask a m ill ow ner to buy
th e logs, pay a crew to saw them , and d o n ate the finished lum
b e r is ask in g for a p re tty husky financial sacrifice.
W hat this group plans to do, then, is to ask. first for logs,
secondly for the use of m ills, finally for donated labor. W ith
loggers, tru c k e rs, m ill ow ners and mill crew s all cooperating,
th e lu m b er for th e Scout building m ay he a c cu m u lated w ith no
g re at financial stra in on any individual.
I t ’s a good idea, and w o rth y of th e group endeavoring to
build th e Scout home. We wish tly rn every success, and w e’ll
join w ith the o th e r business m en in giving them o u r most solid
hacking.
To th e sponsoring o rg a n iz atio n s who are ca rry in g th e load on
th is p ro ject; th e VEW . the E agles, and the O ld Fellow s, th e re
sh ould be a g reat deal of satisfac tio n in the know ledge of w hat
th e ir w ork is gaining
And to th e o th e r civic o rg a n iz atio n s of
th is city th e re is a great o p p o rtu n ity h ere to do som ething
w o rth w h ile for th e youth of th is area.

cu sto m to scoff at A m erican w ays. W e are. according to th e
self-an o in ted . a crass, m a teria listic, juvenile people, w ith no real
c u ltu re and no know ledge of the b e tte r th ings of life. . . in su ffer
ably rude, self-centered, proud, foolish and naive W e ve heard

have been run on the site of the
Scout house, with Charles Echols
slated to m ake surveys for the
building this week.

ing to sponsors of the project, is
to acquire logs which can be
sawed for lum ber for the build
ing.

pointed out, when a tru c k e r m ay
not w ant to unload th e logs he
h as at th e m ill, o r w hen it m ay
be n ecessary to unload. The
b u ilders figure the an ch o rag e site
will be a good place to unload. ..
