Jacks Bump
Beavers Twice
innings K im ura opened the sixth
with a base hit but Selby hit into
a double play. Five hits, including
Burdell’s triple and Jay D ean’s
double, plus two Jack errors gave
Brookings four runs. The Beavers
tied into Janszen again in the
seventh w ith two down scoring
five more runs on an equal num
ber of hits. Two runners were
left stranded as K im ura was out
at first on a close play to end the
game with Brookings trailing 14
to 9. Leading Beaver h itters in
the second game w ere Dick Price
w ith two hits in four trips and
Jim Lowman and Hon Monelo
each with two blows in two offi
cial times at the plate.
The Beavers are in for another
tough test when the Drain Black
Sox, headed by M anager Roy
H eiser of Coast league fame, com.e
to town for a double header next
Sunday afternoon at one o’clock.

The potent Coos Bay-North
Bend Lum ber Jacks, boasting of
no less than 11 ex-pros in their
lineup, visited Brookings last Sun
day and walked off w ith both
games of the double header. The
twin victory probably w asn’t as
easy as expected. The Jacks bare
ly squeaked past the Beavers in
the opener by a 6 to 5 score and
stopped a tw o-run rally in the
bottom of the ninth w ith the tie-
ing run on base. W ith one down,
Whitey Matson, pinch hitting for
Jitfk Stephenson, singled through
the box and M anager Jim Low-
man, batting for Coleman, dou
bled to left, both scoring on Ken
K im ura's sharp hit to right. Had
it not been for a great stop by
Roy Nicely, ex-San Francisco
Seal, on Jack Selby’s potential hit
through the box, forcing K im ura
at second, Brookings probably
would have been the winner.
Corky Coleman, young left
hander from OSC, m ade a very
creditable showing a fte r a some

scored twice in the first and added
another brace of runs in the sec
