Woods Accident
THURSDAY, MAY 14, 1953
Collision
A traveler was injured on
Tuesday morning about 10:00
a m. when a Greyhound bus and
a Buick car collided near Car-
penterville. Th^ car was badly
damaged and Thomas E. Shad-
duck of Portland, driver of the
car, was hospitalized at Gold
Beach.
The bus was dented on the
left front and after minor re­
pairs and a long delay it pulled
into Gold Beach, where passen­
gers were transferred to anoth­
er bus going north.

Robert Smythe and Whitey
Wignef were taken to Crescent
City by ambulance on Thursday]
morning after a woods accident
had injured both. Robert Smythe
suffered a leg injury and after
medical attention was discharged
and taken home. Mr. Wignef
had three vertebrae fractured
and will be in'The hospital for a
while.

Brookings and throughout most
of the Nation on May 23, the
Saturday before Memorial Da>,
it has been announced by Mrs.
Robert Stanhurst, Poppy Chair­
man of Chetco Post 138 Unit of
the American Legion Auxiliary.
On that day everyone in the
city will be asked to wear a mem­
orial poppy in honor of the dead
of the two World Wars and the
Korean conflict.
In exchange for the poppies,
the Auxilary wil accept contri­
butions for its work for disabled
veterans which is largely sup­
ported by these contributions.
