ACCEPTANCE OF LIONS CLUB CHARTER
r p i l E ADVENT O F LIONISM in this area has m arked an era
-* of developm ent of our citizens and community.
I am sure that all appreciate the fact that clubs m ake cities,
cities m ake states and states m ake our great nation. If we
through Lionism, can typify our association’s motto, L-I-O-N-S,
Liberty, Intelligence, O ur N ation’s Safety, then we will have
found for ourselves a niche which none other could ever ho{>e to
occupy.
In accepting this charter, and in establishing a completed
and recognized unit of the International Association of Lions
Clubs, our hopes, our faith, and our petition may be best set
forth in five words. “ W e Are Here To Serve," atui those five
w ords will he the m otto of the Brookings-Harhor Lions Club.
As the first President of the B ro-H ar Lions Club, and in be
half of our membership, 1 m ake the following pledges to the
citizens of the BiookingsH arhor area, to the Mayor of Brook
ings. to the President of the R otary Club, and to the President
of the Cham ber of Commerce.
(1) T hat this Lions Club is founded to perpetuate in men's
h e a rts a love of our native land, and to talk of and strive for
honesty, reciprocity and cooperation in business, com m unity bet
term en t and municipal growth.
<2) That we are organized that there may flow from good
fellowship, m utual help and profit, and that our combined in
fluence may he system atized, directed and utilized tow ard the
w elfare and upbuilding of our com m unity “ W r Are Here to
Serve ”
(3) That we will always conscientiously and loyally set about
to m ake a b etter place in which to live, and we will willingly
and earnestly, join hands with all citizens, or groups of citizens,
in all w orthy undertakings "H 'e Arc Here To Serxe."
(4) That we cordially invite from, and at the same tim e ex
tend, to all organizations of like kind, character and purpose
our hearty cooperation in achieving the aims for which all Lions
(Tubs stand.
To an honest realization of all such pledges the Brookings-
H arbor Lions Club does hereby dedicate itself; for there is no
o th e r cause tor its existence.
Modestly do we hope that some day it may be said of the
B rookings-H arbor area that it is a b e tte r place in which to live,
to work and to play, by virtue of its Lions Club. “ We Arc Hero
To S c n r .”
R alph W. R eed . President.
