inches long. Their m argins are
incurved and the lower surfaces
are lighter in color and more
heavily downy than are the up
per surfaces.
The flowers appear in num er
ous crowded heads grouped into
compact, flat-topped clusters that
may be to 8 inches across. The
ndividual heads are about 1/3
nch across with the o u ter bracts
ihort and pearly white. The pis
tils occur in tu b u lar flowers and
the stam ens in narrow’ flowers
twith of which are usually to he
found in the sam e head. The
flowers arc m atu re from July
through Septemlxw hut m ay ap
pear to be virile long a fte r the
regular flowering period.
The
stem s are substantial and m ay
hold the flowers erect on into the
w inter or if picked and put into
a vase they do not wilt easily but
continue to appear1 as though they
w ere fresh.

Besides controlling
the plant by cultivation it has
been suggested th at close cu ttin g
or spraying with sodium chlorate
gives effective control.
While we do not find the plant
listed as edible or as poisonous,
we do find th at it has gained
public recognition probably as an
ornam ental and it has m any com
mon names such as Moonshine
B utton, Silver
Leaf,
Poverty
Weed and Cotton Weed.

Jesus, they say, was a mere man
— nor God. Some of them acknowl
edge that he was a great teacher
and rank him with Buddha, Mo
hammed, Confucius and Moses. A
few even claim that no such Person
as Jesus Christ ever lived, and that
the entire structure called Christi
anity is founded upon a myth.
W hile refusing to believe the
Scriptures to be of divine origin,
some of these educated people em
brace Christianity because they feel
that its moral laws are g i x x l for
society.
‘ The service of the Christian
religion,” declared one of these
doubters, "and my own faith in es
sential Christianity, would not be
diminished one iota if it should in
some wav he discovered that no
siu h indiv ¡dual as Jesus ever lived.”
They arc. in other words, w illing to
accept Christ's religion —but not
Christ Himself.
It is ridiculous, of course, to sug
gest that the Catholic religion is
the religion of the ignorant. For
millions of educated people ... and
many of the world's most distin
guished scholars, philosophers and
s c ie n tis ts . . . have been devout
Catholics. But discounting this fact,
there is abundant evidence to sup
port the Catholic teaching concern
ing Jesus.
It is to be found in the Four
Gospels, in which the real Jesus is
revealed to us. But,” argue some
