General Eisenhower, according to Washington observers,
is ready and waiting with an answer.
He is going to say to our allies in the United Nations,
politely but unsmilingly, that if they want to object to our poli
cies in Korea with more authority they will have to take more
of the load
In other words, he is going to say to them: ’’Put up, or
Shut up "
Why should the Communist world take the United Na
tions war in Korea seriously when only token opposition is be
ing offered to the Rthl aggression by all but one of them?
If every member of the United Nations would participate
in the Korean war to the full extent of its resources, the war
would be over mighty quick and the Russians would be mighty
glad to be out of it.
But as long as the) have only America to fight, the Com
munists will find continuation of the war highly profitable, be
cause it gives them a fertile field for propaganda against the
Americans
If our allies are no timid about having the Free Chinese
on our side and about building up the South Korean forces, they
have the alternative of paying their proportionate costs in money
and men for carrying on the struggle
But as long as they want American money and lives to
he virtually the whole price of keeping the war going, the “ put
•p or shut up" ultimatum is well in order.
