REDFIELDS DESCRIBE TRIP TO EAST;
HAWAII CERTAINLY ENCHANTING
Continued from Page One
From there we drove out to the
Salvation Home for Girls. There
the grounds are like a fairy place,
w here every tree and shrub has
a blossom, flowers of every de
scription and color, t r e e ferns
w ith trunks of five to six inches.
T heir tops are giant frond-like
^ranches.
Then we went to the form er
royal palace which is in the m id
dle of the Civic Center. Here, too.
the grounds are most lovely, and
words fail to explain their beauty.
We walked through the palace
with its lavish furnishings, hang
ing chandeliers of pure crystal
prism s and the oriental rug which
was like walking on deep moss.
From the palace we went out
through a valley of palm s and
lush vegetation with blossoms of
every conceivable color. Suddenly
we came upon a breath-taking
view: called the Pali, and over a
sheer drop you view land and sea
in the distance. Here the wind
blows with a terrific force.
By the tim e we reached Pali,
the car was fairly well-laden with
different blossoms as our chauf
feur guide had picked for us. We
also visited the punch bowl c ra
ters wherein is located the P a
cific National Memorial Ceme
tery for H aw aii’s w ar dead and
this is also where Ernie Pyle is
buried. From here we drove back
through beautiful residential dis
tric ts and on to W aikiki Beach and
to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel to
have lunch. Lunch consisted of
