State's T raffic Toll
------------- By C lifford p . R-owi Expected High On
Once again the dreary sanity of our daily life has been
relieved by an episode coining out of Hollywood, the
cinema capital where dwells that species
of humanity technically designated as
screwball Americans.’’
I refer to the idea originated by Linda
Christian in order to hold the affections
of her husband, Tyrone Power. Since ac
tor husbands are sometimes rather absent-
minded when it comes to remembering
just whom they are married to, Linda
had a sculptor carve a resonable facsimile
of her torso in the nude and then proceed to plant it at
a strategic point among the petunias bordering her patio. One reaso n holiday traffic ta k e s
any lives is th a t som e d riv e rs
The idea behind the maneuver which she is recom m
try to cover too m any m iles in
mending to all wives is that should hubby be chasing a sh o rt period of tim e. N ew bry
some attractive young thing around among the palms, pointed out. O th e r d riv e r e rro rs

sooner or later he will be bound to come bust to bust with edy
include too m uch speed o v er
the chiseled form of his dear but forgotten wife. Nat crow ded, u n fa m ilia r roads, try in g
urally being conscience stricken and sick with remorse, to nass in th e face of oncom ing
trnflic o r on hills and curves, fa il
he will immediately abandon the chase, run to the phone,
call up his wife at the apartment of her latest boy friend,
pledge new his love and spend the rest of his life weaving
daisy necklaces for her stony stand-in.
lust one thing worries me. If this becomes a fad—and
it is bound to catch on in 1 lolly wood—what is going to
happen when an actor trades in his wife for a later model?
Will he give her the bust along with her alimony and
maiden name or will he hollow out the top of its head
transforming it into a bird-bath?
Linda says that the real purpose behind her move is
that she wants to provide Tyrone with a permanent rec
ord of what she looked like in her prime so that he will
not be tempted to stray away in search of a size sixteen
Pwhen she becomes a forty.
( )ur advice to Linda would be to quit frettimi. She
merely wasting her time. The man who loves his wih
never sees any change in her except for the better though
they live together for fifty vears, and the man who doesn't
love his wife is never going to be kept at home by a
rocky replica.
