than likely have never before come near-
er to the school than the gymnasium or
the football held, take advantage of this
annual occasion to gather within the walls
of the institution of learning to which
they have entrusted the development of their offspring
for the past several years..
Occurring in every hamlet, town and city throughout
the land, the scene is always a stirring one. This is defin
itely one time of the year when democracy is displayed
at its best for here in thc span of a few brief hours all
are made aware of the fact that regardless of race, creed
or financial standing their children have an equal oppor
tunity to acquire an education.
For the parent it is a wonderful day. There on the plat
form he sees his contribution to the world of tomorrow
and he is proud and thankful. Any sacrifices which he
may have made to bring about this event now seem
petty in comparison with the finished product upon
which he Beams. Parents are perhaps the only people
in the world who are not envious of the success of others
when those others are their own children.
The dream of all mothers and fathers is that their
children shall be even better equipped for the great ad
venture of adult accomplishment than they were. In
this dream rests the secret of the greatness of America
^tomorrow and in the centuries yet to come, for so long
as a nation lays stress on the importance of formal edu-
cay>n for all its children, it cannot deteriorate.
