BROOKINGS-HARBOR PILOT, BROOKINGS, OREGON
For What It's Worth.
~ — —
And speaking of marriage, this same knucklehead
probably got stinko before his wedding. If his wife fin
ally gives him the boot, which she should, he’ll prob
ably get drunk in order to forget. If it were humanely
possible, he would undoubtedly get drunk at his own
funeral.

Now I will admit that man has the constitutional priv
ilege of making a fool of himself anytime he wants to.
There is no law prohibiting it. But it does seem to me
that in those very rare instances in any m an’s life when
fortune smiles and the entire world for one brief mom
ent is his, he should keep his senses about him in order
to enjoy to the utmost the precious pleasure which is his.

I or instance, there is the type of character who on Be
ing informed that he is a “proud papa” immediately
hies himself away to the nearest tavern to get plastered.
He s happy! And in a few hours he’s in such a condi
. tion that he has probably forgotten the event that he
used as an excuse for the celebration. He has probably 1
even forgotten that he is married. He ends up by spend
ing the first twenty-four hours of his new-born’s exist
ence with his head packed in ice bags.

Humphrey Bogart, popular movie star, was awarded
i th (^ > v rte d "O se a r” recently as the outstanding movie
actor or 1951. It was a great honor and
undoubtedly deserved; hut my opinion
of his greatness went down tremendously
..yi when he stated, “ I am very pleased; I
a tt\ going out tonight and get loaded.”
1 "Loaded" for the benefit of those unfa
miliar with the term means “drunk.”
Now I pretend to be neither saint nor
$'* : X. sinner, but I must admit that I have no
i
patience for individuals who feel that any
event out of the ordinary can only be celebrated fittingly
h) getting intoxicated. I have even less for those who
advertise their asininity in print. Bogart’s case is just one
among many.
