COMMITTEE OFFERS NAMES'
Those recommended for positions on Brookings city
council by the committee are not a “pct group” but are
result of votes submitted by members of the committee.
The method of selection was: Each of the committee
submitted a list of five whom he felt would be his choice
for the council. These were tabulated, and those receiv
ing the greatqst number were put up as the committee’s
recommendation, as promised weeks ago.
As it looks to the Pilot, the men chosen command the
deepest respect and confidence of committee members,
for it must be assumed that this committee was looking
for men who could be trusted to carry out a city pro
gram—that is a good recommendation.
This docs not, however, deter any other citizen from
obtaining the required number of signatures to file his
candidacy for the council. In fact, the committeemen
believe that should happen, for, after all, the committee
has no intentions of “running things.”
It must also be remembered that this committee is
composed of property owners, who pay taxes, and who
will pay city taxes. It was with all this in mind that the
recommendations were made to other voters. The Pilot
feels that utmost faith may be placed in this group.

With the opening of Young’s
5 & 10 store, Monday, and with
the future opening or Freeman's
new store, Brookings has made
a couple more steps toward being
a town of fine shopping places.
Recent completion of the new
addition to E. E. Hanscam & Sons
store makes that one of the big
gest stores in the southwestern
part of the state, to date. This
all points to progress.
The flowers oil display at the
opening of Young’s new store
indicate the appreciation people
hold for this opening. The Youngs
are more than thrilled at the
response given them at their in
itial day of the new store. “Our
faith is more than justified”

start rumors that someone is out

Made a trip to Seaside last
week, to visit a niece whom I
hadn’t seen for 31 years, and my
30-odd hours on the bus to and
from Seaside awakened me to
many needs of this community—
so I studied almost every town
I could, and asked many quees-
tions. Without exception, I was
told by difTerent town residents
that the greatest need for incor-
portion today is for the health
and zoning ordinances and police
protection.
Who can question, even among
those opposing, the lack of all
these aids right here? Ask these
two women who were subjected
to humiliating attacks by a sex
pervert. Ask those home-owners
who fear that an undesirable bus
iness or home will be erected on
the adjacent lot. Better get on
the bandwagon immediately and
help instead of fighting those who
are trying to do something?
