It might be expedient for all
car ow’ners and drivers to con
sult their insurance agents about
what is expected and do that
; immediately. After the accident
or brush with the law will be
too late. Question of who is in
the right or wrong does not en
ter into the matter.
Elsewhere in this issue appears
an article under Salem dateline,
from the Secretary of State's of
fice, giving, in a nutshell the
facts concerning the law. This is
warning enough to all, heed and
be safe.

Mounting death toll from auto
accidents in Oregon in the past
decade caused the l)ast legis
lature to pass a drastic law on
responsibility of the drivers, and
many present drivers may find
themselves denied the right to
drive, unless they check closely
on their individual resposibility.
There will be a number of the
so-called “hot-rod” drivers who
are the target of this law.
Right in this toicn, there is a
professional man who boasts he
never carried any kind of insur
ance, and never would, who had
better hang up his car keys un
less he breaks his resolve to go
through life without insurance.
Responsibility must be there, be
the driver old or young, if my
interpretation of the law is cor-
reet. In addition^ there
no
“free accidents" for the responsi
bility begins Aug. second.

Am not quite sure in my own
mind what to think about the
game, Sunday, and the officiat
ing which w'as evident all after
noon. This is not an alibi, nor
is it a way to cover up the de
feat suffered by the Pelicans.
I do not want to question the
honesty of this official, for the
poorness was evident on both
sides, but I do wish to note that
such officiating will lead to bad
feelings betwean towns and teams
in the circuit. Roseburg was able
to score three three runs on a
fly ball which fell at least five
feet foul down left field line.
Brookings, likewise, was pre
sented a few’ runs, so both clubs
are not too happy over the out
come, although Brookings wishes
it known that there was no at
tempt to “buy the game.”
Roseburg, to my way of think
ing, was not the best sports in
their actions after the game. The
best way. I believe, would be to
