Beaver State, for both boys
and girls, is a plan for training
in the functional aspect of cit
izenship. It is a program of edu
cation, sponsored by the Ameri-
can Legion, department of Ore
gon, to teach the youth of today
constructive attitudes toward the
American form of government.
Beaver State attempts to show
that our scheme of government
has not outgrown its usefulness,
that all a democracy needs is an
intelligent citizenry and a clean,
honest and impartial administra
tion responsive to the will of the
people.
This program, originated i n •
Illinoois in 1934, has been na-[
tionally adopted by the Legion
and Auxiliary. The 1951 school
will be the 15th session for the
Beaver State.

PORTLAND—Homer Haggerty
of Haggerty Twinservice, Brook
ings Kaiser-Frazer dealer, at
tended a meeting of Oregon and
Southwest Washington Kaiser-
Frazer dealers here last week,
where the group was briefed by,
Portland zone officials of Kaiser-
Frazer Sales Corporation in de
tails of local participation in a
nation-wide ‘'Test the Big 2” dem
onstration campaign scheduled by
the company from May 21 thru
June 19.
During the five weeks cam
paign thousands of motorists in
this area will be given special
tree “test” rides in both Kaiser
and Henry J. automobiles, ac
cording to Haggerty, head of the
local sales Organization.
The
special demonstrations will be
conducted under every available
type of traffic or road condition;
h n heavy traffic, on rough, hilly
and winding roads, and on good
highways at the motorist's nor
mal driving speed. Those who de
sire special tests or demonstra
tions may have them.
“It is the factory's conviction,
and our own, that a majority
of motorists buy new cars from i
habit, and habit alone,” Hagger
ty said. “The object of this spe-
cial five-point demonstration
campaign is to convince people
that there is a much better way
to buy a modern car testing by
actual riding and driving exper
ience. And of course, we believe
that the performance and riding
qualities of the Henry J and Kai
ser will measure up to the best,
or wouldn't be sponsoring such
a campaign.”
