CURRY COUNTY NOW RECOGNIZED
By Dewey
Fans of the area are really |
concerned about the coming base
ball situation since the Southern
Oregon league dissolved when a
number of teams withdrew to
i enter a “class” which the towns
I felt might be more even. That
may or may not be the excuse,
■ hut the league is finished, and
, Crescent City, Brookings, Cen
tral Point are orphans without
a league.
Sunday, Pete'’ Lesmeister, bus- 1
iness manager, went to Coauille,
in an effort to get into South
western Oregon which includes
Myrtle Point, Reedsport, Bandon
and others, but he wasn't given
any satisfaction because they
claimed it would increase the
‘dong distances" for games. An
' effort may be made to enter a
league including teams of Cres
cent City, Arcata and Eureka, or
to reinstate in the Rogue Valley
league, of which Brookings was
a members two years ago.
Pete knows fans about the area
want their baseball, and they
want the best class possible, rle
is leaving nothing undone to ac
complish that fact. It might be
added that Pete’s life has lots of
room for baseball. It has been
since his

Gold Beach, as of Monday, was
energized through the line be
tween here and the county seat.
This move is another step toward
realization of a long-felt need
power in the area. Later this
year, and perhaps just after the
beginning of 1952, Bonneville will
have the circuit completed to
Gold Beach, linking up the cir
cuit which will prevent many
outages which might occur.
Brookings is ahead on power
schedule, but the northern cud
is still behind in its needs. When
these needs -oe fulfilled, then the¡
growth of the county wil be giv-\
en added impetus, and reason
for more and continued expansion
more than people at the mo
ment realite.
If our telephone situtaion were
abreast, there would be cause for
rejoicing. However, there is one
good reason for lack of telepl one
expansion capital. Being a stock
company, it is regulated by all
the commissions and bureaus of
government, which tell these
corporations how much stock to
be sold for expansion, which is
limited to a ratio not to exceed
30 to 40 per cent.
