KCRE Wants People
On Brookings Hour
An appeal is being made by
Robei t Gray, manager of radio
station KCRE for people of the
Brookings area to utilize the time
available on the Brookings Hour
Friday ftern°°n Monday thl’ough
I
“I want people of that area td
I eel that this is also their own
radio station—not Crescent Citv
alone Actually, if Brookings is
able to supply the material for
that time, it may use two hours
daily if it wishes.
Mrs. Dorothy Lockland was the
woman of the week Tuesday at
appropriate ceremonies at the
Mecca Theatre. This idea may
be carried out so that each dav
some person may be honored at
or through some program Mr
Gray explained Sunday.
’
“Brookings is growing—it is a
place which has only started to
grow—so it must be put on the
air so the remainder of the world
may know’ what it is doing. Have
anyone there who will or can,
come and put on the program
of a certain day. Stagger the
davs so that no one person has
a big load to carry in his doing
this service.”

Dear Editor: Information has!
reached Curry County Hospital!
board that individuals are con-1
sidering assuming the cost of I
equipping a hospital room, and
that several service organizations!
and womens clubs are planning
on that as their year's humani
tarian project.
This w ould be very much ap-1
preciated and in return for this1
needed assistance a suitable'
metal plaque would be placed
at the entrance of the room. I
carrying the name of person or
organization who made this con-
tri but ion.
Now that consruction of the
building is well under way, plans
for equipment are being carried
on. Due to the present-day trend
of high prices the amount allow
ed in the project for equipment
is proving to be a problem. For
instance cost of equipping the
surgery and delivery rooms, with
sterilizers, explosive-proof oper
ating lights, operating tables,
etc., will cost more than $9000.
donor considering this type
gift could see the board chair-
man as he now had the price
lists of room equipment. The
items needed in a complete hos
pital are so numerous that there
is a large range to choose from,
depending on the amount to be
donated. C. E. Seger, chairman,

COURTIER'S
GOLD BEACH — Apparently
some folks get a great kick out
of pruning raspberries. If you
overwork the pruning shears on
raspberries, some of your berry
yield will be lying on the ground
when you are finished, County
Agent Clifford Jenkins said. ‘
More raspberries are o v e r-
pruned than underpruned. Each
hill should have 12 canes left in
it. If you cut the canes back
rnore you will get larger ber
ries, but a smaller total yield.
More retrurns from the rasp-
bcrr\ patch may also be receiv
ed with spring application of
nitrogen and phosphate fertiliz
ers. Abount 30 to 60 pounds of
actual nitrogen and about 100 to
150 pounds ot actual phosphate
pei acre. This applied as a side
dressing to the raspberry rows
should increase the yield much.
Fifty boys are sought by the
Boy Scout committee of thè Odd
Fellows lodge here, to enroll and
get in readiness for the camp
oree. to be held in June. An ad
vertisement appears elsewhere
in this issue.

A building 235x400 is sizeable!
if vou wish to take your pencil
and paper and do a little figuring. '
An acre contains 160 square
rods. The total area of the plant
will be 347.59 square rods, or!
2.17 acres.
The floor w ill be of concrete, I
the Pilot was informed. That is
also something in wav of amount 1
of cement which will be needed
