Publication Year
With This Issue
March 7, 1946, Brookings-Har-
bor Pilot came into existence as
Volume One, Number One was,

Next week, March 1, 1951, 60
weeks, or issues, later, the Pilot
will issue Volume Six, Number
One, denoting five continuous
years of publication without a
single miss.
Volume One. Number One was
put out under difficulties, first
from publishing before the shop
was completely .arranged; sec
ond from well-wishing friends
wanting to grab the first copy
and from the extreme dampness
of the shop, due to freshly pour
ed concrete floor.
When Volume One, Number
One went into the mails, there
were no bakery, no Hendricks
building, no Grayshcl building,
no Shell Service; Brookings Mar
ket under construction; no Red
field building; no street lights,
only a few’ neon signs, and dull
and drab paint on many of the
then current business houses.

forced out of business, but his
newspaper will find new editors,
new owners, who will carry on.
Newspapers were granted cer
tain rights by the Constitution of

token, they were given certain
