Bruins Take Two
From Port Orford
In First Home Tilts
Port Orford Pirates gave the
Brookings Bruins the scares of
their lives last Friday evening
in the first home games of the
current hoop season, and looked
for a time to have the number
of the local lads. Only their in
ability at the foul line spelled
the eventual defeat. Score of the
“B” squads was 30-28; and “A”
49 to 34.
It can be said without reser
vation that Art Guthrie spent a
number of anxious moments in
the first game, and especially in
the first half of the “A” game,
which stood 20-all at the time.
Still trying to find the “right
combination” of players, Guth
rie made frequent substitutions.
However, in the third quarter
the Bruins settled down to work
in a business-like manner to tally
25 points while Port Orford was
gathering but eight. With game
secure at that point, and after
three regulars had gone out via
five personals, the game was one
which the fans really appreciated
for its artion.
