Once upon a time on a Christ
mas eve of 1903, a Danish post
oflice clerk saw' two children out
in the snow, poorly dressed and
shivering and coughing. At that
instant an idea popped into his
mind. Why should there not be
a special stamp, not to be used
lor postage but to raise money
to help sick people? The King of
Denmark approved of the idea
and tlie next Christmas the Dan
ish people* bought $17,000 worth
of these seals.
