Couple United In Rites, Recently
GOLD BEACH—Miss Betty Jo Stansell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Stansell, and Ralph Vernon Hogue, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Hogue, were united in marriage at a recent ceremony at the Pres­
byterian church with Rev. Sydney Walker officiating. The bride,
igven in marriage by her father, was attired in a forest green suit
with brown accessories and wore an orchid corsage. She was at-
ttended by Patricia Hess, maid of honor, who wore a burgundy
suit with white gardenia corsage.
Best man was Donald Hogue, brother of the groom. The wed­
ding march and two selections, “I Love You Truly” and “Because"
were played by Leora Andrews at the piano. The church was dec­
orated for occasion with white chrysanthemums and huckleberry.
Follow the ceremony a reception was given by Nina Stansell in
her apartment, which was attended by 50 or more guests who came
to offer the couple their congratulations and gifts. A three-tiered
wedding cake, cut by the bride and groom, was served with coffee
to the guest. Rice, tin cans and bells awaited the couple as they
left for a short honeymoon. They will be at home to friends at
the Mateer Apartments.

The chamber of commerce has
elected the following officers for
the coming year at the Dec. 4,I
meeting: Ira Tucker, president
(re-elected); Elmer Raymo, vice-
president; Art Nieman will serve
as secretary-treasurer for an­
other year. Members of the board
of directors are: Ira Tucker, John
McWilliams and Fred Stack.
Leia Hensley is spending two
two weeks with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ira Hensel on Cape
Blanco road, while recuperatting
from virus pneumonia. Leia is
employed at Seattle, Wash.
What do you think of a show
for prospective grandmothers?
That was the surprise at the
Tuesday Sewing club when it
met at Evelyn MacDonald’s on
Dec. 5. There were 12 ladies
present, all bringing gifts for the
baby-to-be in the Alan Corbin
K home, Gold Beach. The prospec­
tive grandmothers are Margaret
Corbin and Mrs. Noma Thomas,
both of Port Orford.
Gene Ostrander, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Ostrander, is re-
• ceiving treatment at McAuley
hospitl for a badly broken arm,
suffered when he fell from a
tree near his home.
Ruth Norris writes her par­
ens, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maloy,
that they are “digging in” for a
cold winter at Kodiak, Alaska.
Ruth and son, Hewitt, flew from
North Bend to Kodiak to be with
her husband, Claude Norris, who
is chief warrant officer in the
navy and stationed there. From
Tennessee to Alaska—such is the
life in the U. S. Navy.
A near-Capacity crowd cheer­
ed the home teams to a double
basketball victory over Powers
last Saturday night. The second

string score was 41 to 19, afteri
an action-packed game played
by Gary Jamieson, Wayne Four­
nier, Tim Flake, Lee Tucker,
Roger Childers and Niel Knapp.
The first string won over the
Cruisers by a score of 33 to 27,
with the score close most of the
way. Coach Tiernan has reason
to think his teams will make
a good showing this season.
Port Orford band played some
rousing numbers during inter­
missions which is an addition to
the evening’s enjoyment. Lee
Tucker managed to play on the
second team and play his big
bass horn in the band, an ac­
complishment worth mentioning
Fans are urged to come out
the teams are worth cheering.
Port Orford has an independ­
ent team, too, under sponsorship
of Elton Miller. It is scheduled
to play Bandon Coast Guard this
week.
Sunset Gardgen club held its
Christmas party at the meeting,
Friday, Dec. 8, at the home of
Mrs. Art Nieman. Mary Lee An­
derson and Fern Townley were
hostesses. Pals were revealed by
the gift exchange.
The Sixes-Elk Garden club
met the same day at the O. K.
Wilcox home.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Collins of
Ophir spent Sunday at the Clar­
ence Hines’ residence.
Vai Townleys and Horace
Woosleys left to spend a vaca­
tion in California .last Saturday.
Echol Nutt is taking Mrs. Town-
ley’s place in the school cafe­
teria.
A double stork shower for Mrs.
Harold Knapp and Mrs. Alan Cor­
bin was held at the N. B. Marsh
home last Friday evening.
