ACKLEY ENDORSED BY VOTERS!
an office in Brookings and Gold Beach. 1 am a
veteran of World War 2, and solicit your support.
Elsewhere in this issue appears an advertisement, paid for by a
group of Curry county citizens, urging election of Ed Ackley for
district attorney. Until the appearance of this advertising, the Pilot
had remained neutral in this matter, but now, after hearing the
side put forth by these voters, has swung around to the election of
Ed Ackley, which name must be written in on the blank line just
beloy "22” For District Attorney, as it will appear on the ballot.
From the mouths of many of these electorate come convincing
reasons for this move. More than 500 Curry county voters who en
dorse Ackley, must have valid reasons for so doing. These electors
come from both Democratic and Republican ranks, many from each
section of the county, so it is definitely not a clique.
For as many reasons are names appear on this advertisement,
the Pilot is convinced of its merits, and endorses this move.

“For the love of singing” is
the only impelling force which
keeps barbershop singing going
—which will cause quartets of
different towns to drive Hun
dreds of miles to a parade of
quartets—to undergo hardships
which they wouldn’t take to see
a son or daughter graduate from
college. Perhaps that is putting
it rather strong, but remember
last Saturday night.
If you were a music critic of
grand opera, perhaps you might
frown on this effort on part of
men, many of whom do not know
one note from another, try to
sing. I am definitely a fan for
barbershop singing, and will jo
as often as I can to hear any
program put on by the group.
I was astonished by the prog-
ress made by the local chapter
in the past year. I sat there in
astonishment as the group went
through the songs at the begin
ning of the program just short
of professional. We certainly
are fortunate in this area to
have been so inclined. This spir
it is one that should be cultivated
in every possible way.
1 am amazed at the Klamath
Falls chorus. That group has no
end of talent and is capable of
putting on an entire evening’s
entertainment unaided. That is
the aim of Barber shopping, I am
told by the people who go in for
singing as they do.
Remember the storm, the haz
ards taken by these singers to
reach here Saturday What oth
er force could be more strong?
"For the love of sinking” is a
force that keeps men and wom
en going against all odds. It is
something to reckon with.
Forgetting that angle of it —I
where could one find better en-1
tertainment than was afforded
the people last Saturday! Where
except in larger cities could we
have an opportunity to see men
perform except where there is
barbershop singing!
Next Tuesday is electin i day.
How many of us are going to
exercise our right: s as citizens
how many of us are going to
the polls and cast a ballot for
better government, , for our fu-
ture happiness?
It has often been my experi
ence. after talking to a person
who has much to say in criticism
against state officials or of the
laws to learn that he had not
voted i^ne cases as many is
tut' last couple elections. That is
certainly not the American way.
Personally I am not as greatly
concerned how you vote, so long
as you vote.
