Fire severely damaged the kit­
chen of the Jack Davis home in
the Hamlet last Friday night.
About 8 p. m. a neighbor, Mrs.
Mary Lee Anderson, was walking
down the road and noticed the
fire through the window of the
house and dashed across the
street to summon the volunteer
fire department, on the Chet
Kirtland telephone. Before the
engine arrived Kirtland, John
O'Hara and other neighbors had
brought garden hoses and spray­
ed the flames. The firemen ar-
rived shorty and quickly and
completely brought the blaze un­
der control. There was thought
to be considerable smoke and
water damage. When the excite­
ment was all over, one of the
firemen was investigating fur­
ther when he spied a tiny, thor­
oughly-drenched puppy emerge
from under the bed, seemingly
none the worse for the experi­
ence of having been in the resi-
