In a letter to the Brookings
chamber of commerce, the Cur­
ry county fair board asked that
this community enter floats in
the parade at Gold Beach on
Sept. 2. The letter:
“The Curry County fair and
Rodeo parade will be Sept. 2,
and we would like to have as
many floats from Brookings as
possible. The first prize for floats
will be $25.00 and the second
and third prizes will be mer­
chandise.
“Also, there will be a first prize
of $5.00 for the best decorated

few plantings of their stock that
had been bought by local resi­
dents. They have expanded their
holdings at Port Orford, and ex­
pect to ship berries commercially
this year as well as to sell new
plants.
Joseph Taylor, owner of the
Chetco Inn, left last week for
a business trip to Los Angeles.
He expects to return soon but
will not move here until per­
haps spring, he told the Pilot.
Young Wiens, whose father is employed by a GM
dealer, also shared regional honors with Earl V.
Holman of Spokane, Wash., whose model outscored
Knapps in the Washington-Oregon region. Crafts­
mans Guild regulations stipulate when a son of such
an employe qualifies a duplicate award be given. Each
boy received a cash award of M50, and \\ tens model,
with regional honors, has a chance to win a university
scholarship in the national competition.
