Every day tourists stop and
ask “Have you a hot-i or motel
by the sea where we may stop
for the night?” These will come.
Every home along Hwy 101,
and there aie many, with attrac
tive flower gardens, advertise us
as the Land of Flowers
The seed and flower catalogs
come in again with every mail.
Now is the time to plr • ordert
for shubbery and please don’t for
get the birds in doing this. Pur
chase catoneaster with its bright
winter berries, a feast for many
a feathered friend. The humming
birds love escalonia flowers.
You can make a garden which
will bring the birds the year
around and create a perpetual
interest for yourselves. Just now,
the humming birds hrve taken
over Weedy Acres, but a week or
so ago, the warden was alive
with ruby-crowned kinglets and
yellow finches foraging in the
coreopsis. We did not cut back
the coreopsis but allowed the
seed pods to remain. It spoiled
the looks of the garden but we
couldn’t bear to dispose of ‘hem
when the little birds worked so
near Jacksonville for more than
a year. They visited friends and
relatives a few weeks before ar
riving here, but they are already
deep in fishing, which they enjoy
so much.
