Last Tuesday evening, Treble
Clef chorus which usually prac­
tices at the high school, enjoyed
as a special treat the hospitality
of Docia Sweet for its weekly
sing. The group is preparing for
the annual Music week concert
to be given at the gym next Tues­
day evening. Others participating
in the concert will be the school
band with Charlie Jensen direct-
ing, including one or two speci-
alty numbers, and a few dance
numbers by students of Hazel
Knapp Dance Studio.
Mrs. Gracie McKenzie enter-
tained the Wednesday bridge
club last week. Mrs. Echol Nutt
won first and Mrs. Mary Dob-
bema second. Mrs. Gertrude1 Wil­
liamson will be the next hostess.
Surprised at 2 a. m. the other
morning was Mrs. Ralph Angeli.
Her two sons, Ralph of Portland
and John of Neskowin, sang
“happy birthday,” upon arrival
at that hour, coming to help her
celebrate. Ralph remained a week
W’hile John continued on a busi­
ness trip. Both then returned
north together.
With the slogan “What Port
Orford Makes, Makes Port Or-
ford,” Mrs. Noma Thomas has
announced that this year’s big
Achievement day, May 23, will
include displays of work made by

local hobbyists, both men and
women, as well as heirlooms,
myrtlewood work and special col­
lections. All 4-H groups will ex­
hibit their work in competition
for ribbons to be awarded by the
judges. All residents of the com-
munity are invited to enter their
work for displays.
It is promised to be a gala
day with the Home Extension
silver tea in the afternoon and a
dinner by the grade school teach­
ers in the evening. .Proceeds of
the dinner will be donated to the
band as the instrument fund is
still inadequate.
Mrs. Frances Kirtland, prin-
cipal, has announced that the
grade school children will enter-
tain the diners during the dinner
hour with skits, rhythm band
numbers, jumping rope demon­
stration and folk dances.
Robbie Henson, 6, and Doug-
last Pratt. 7, celebrated their
birthdays at a joint party last
Friday afternoon a t Robbie’s
home. Several young friends en­
joyed the fun and party refresh­
ments, including Eugene Hayden,
George Ransdell, Robert Asdel,
Peter Raasina, and Edith Pratt.
The children were overjoyed to
hear Robbie's and Douglas’ nam­
es read on Uncle Bill’s program
over KIEM late in the afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Baird have
taken over “Katie’s”, popular
restaurant in town. They plan to
operate it on a permanent basis.
Opening last week was Col­
lin’s Grill, newly-rebuilt and re­
furnished. It has not been in
operation since the fire last sum­
mer, which destroyed all but the
bare outside shell. Mrs. Christine
Green and Mrs. Jennie Cough-
ran, formerly of Roseburg, are
leasing and operating it for the
season.
