eon, when he displayed a num
ber of shells, picked up on the
beaches, and showed leaves of
a palm.
“I can imagine these garden
clubbers going about crazy pick
ing up these different leaves to
be used in flower arrangements.
“I certainly enjoyed every mo
ment of the trip to the beach of
an island just off the west coast
where a woman is carrying on
the work she and her husband j
began many years ago. She, a''
native of Tahiti, who married a
sea captain, transplanted many
tropical trees on this island.
(Here Mr. Moss read a list of
about 20, all giving edible fruits
or nuts) "Certainly these differ
ent trees, their landscaping ef
fect and all, reminds one that
it must approach a paradise in
appearance.
"I noticed, too, that Rotary
clubs over the country have a
uniformity that is amazing. One
will notice that members are of
a certain type, and I believe the
highest. Meetings are conducted
pretty much along a pattern, too,
all interesting and instructive.
"It is fun to visit clubs on a
trip, although one is often made
to change travel plans in order
to ‘make’ a meeting. I expect
to always visit on any trip I
make, hencerforth.”
New Vitamin May Prolong Life
Dr. J. E. Stevenson, in reading
an article in a recent Readers’
Digest, told the Rotarians that
this new vitamin, B12, is so po
tent and so successful in leuke
mia, that amazing results have
been observed by the medical
profession« In the article the
story’ of its discovery, and by ac
cident, and commercial prepa
ration by the various chemical
companies.
Basis for this new vitamin is
liver, recommended by doctors
for diets of anemics. It takes
about four tons of livers to pro
duce a dram of vitamin. How
ever, a dosage of the vitamin is
about one-millionth of an ounce,
or about one fiftieth the weight
of a human hair, an inch long.

The total of $3,152,176.65 is in
an all-time high. It represents

cal year ending June 30, 1949.
Of this amount $2,044,693.81
went to Oregon and $1,107,428.84
to Washington according to An
drews. An additional benefit is
in the ten per cent of the gross
receipts of the forest service
which is returned by the treas
ury department for use within
the national forests on roads ancF
trails in the two states.
The counties in which nation
al forests are located have shared
financially in the multiple use
principle under which the na

to the greatest number. Since
1906, the national forests have
returned a total of $19,192,758.86

resenting 25 per cent of the
gross receipts.
A sum of $81,565.47 is being
apportioned to those counties
(Coos, Curry, Josephine and Del
Norte) lying partially within the
boundaies of the Siskiyou Na
tional Forest, as their share of
the 1949 receipts.
