“Sacrament” is the subject
of the Lesson-Sermon in all the
Churches of Christ, Scientist, on
Sunday, January 8.
The Golden Texa is “The prep
arations of the heart in man,
and the answer of the tongue, is
from the Lord . . Commit thy
works unto the Lord, and thy
thoughts shall b e established”
(Prov. 16:1-3).
Among citations which com

following from the Bible "And
Jesus said unto him, . . There
is no man that hath left house,
or parents, or brethren, or wife,
or parents, for the kingdom of
God’s sake, Who shall not re
ceive manifold more in this pres
ent time, and in the world to
come life everlasting” (Luke
18:19, 29, 30), together with the
following correlative passage in
the Christian Science Textbook,
“Science and Health with Key
to the Scriptures,” by Mary Bak
er Eddy: ’Spiritual devoutness is

We are sure that many of you
have made New Years resolu-
tions. One that I hope you have
made is: first, to take your chil-
dien to some religious instruc-
tion on the Lord’s Day, and that
you, as a parent, will be found
in your respective place of wor- t
ship on the Lord’s day.
The pastor will speak on a .
most important subject Sunday i
morning, Jan. 8: “One Gospel.” I
This is only one gospel. What is
that Gospel? The basis for the
message will be the first chapter .
of St. Paul’s letter to the Gala- ,
tians.
The evening service will be a
time ot singing of old-time hymns
of the church and a brief mess
age by the pastor.

day will discuss African violets,
a house-plant which is very pop
ular. There is a fine book on
African violets in the Chetco
Community library which you
may wish to read after hearing
our speaker.
This meeting is the club birth
day party as well, and honors
all charter members. Hostesses
for the day will be announced
later, Mrs. Harbin has some
thing special planned for us.
What is a “tussy mussy” for
goodness sake? Such a name —
“tussy mussies”—rather quaint
and old-fashioned! Mrs. Martha
Grayshel, flower practice chair
man, will tell us all about them,
so come early and learn.
A post card will bring the
garden catalog to your door. No
where will you get more for a
penny. January is the month for

Brookings Schools
Brookings Bruins resume their
athletic schedule after the holi
days by playing Reedsport on
the local floor, Friday evening
at 8 p. m. Reedsport is one of
the stronger of the smaller high
schools on the coast, and the
game promises to be interesting
to local fans. Coach Guthrie is
promising that the Bruins won’t
get “took” quite as bad on the
home floor as they did at Reeds
port.
Next Tuesday, Jan. 10, the
Bruins play Langlois on the lo-
cal floor.

sociation will meet at the Chetco
Grange this Sunday afternoon at
1 o’clock. The first of the week
it was announced that the court
of claims had allowed the four
coast tribes, the Tillamooks, Coj
quilles, Too-too-toneys and the
Chetco’ claims, setting a price of
$1.20 an acre on the lands taken
from the Indians in 1855, with
interests at 5% and 4% on the
amount allowed. This information
was heard on a broadcast Tues-
day evening, and fuller details
